The 18-55mm is a great lens optically. And probably the best kit-lens ever made. Though I sold mine and just carry the 18f2 and 35f1.4 and that works for me. I found I always only shot at 18 and needed a faster indoor lens. But if you have enough light it’s great and you can even get some decent separation/compression at 55mm. Optical Limits reviews are usually taken very seriously. Their judgment on the 16-80mm is rather harsh. According to their test the lens does not perform better (optically) than the 18-135mm. Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR - Review / Test Report. 18-135 at 70mm is sharper at the edges even though it was tested on a 16mpx camera. The 16-55 maxes out at 73lpmm@f/4.0 where the 23 f/1.4 maxes out 70lpmm@f/5.6. So from a resolution point of view, the 16-55 outperforms the 23 f/1.4. The 16-55 also has a very fast AF. It is heavier but no heavier that the lenses it replaces. Like the 23 f/1.4, there is no OIS. Not everyone shoots with small fast prime lenses, and many working professionals rely day-in-day-out on their standard and telephoto zoom lenses to get the job done. The 16-55mmF2.8 is just that - a standard zoom that gets the job done The price difference of the X-T1 with/without the XF 18-55 is $400 with the XF 18-55 sold by itself going for $700. Consider the Canon EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS sells for $830 ($870 MSRP). Probably, a close "kit lens" in the Fuji-X line up would be the XC 16-55 for $400. Fujifilm 10-24mm Macro. Not going to be confused for a macro lens. The 8-16mm has a minimum focusing distance of 9.84″/25cm. Meanwhile, the 10-24 actually comes in closer with a focusing distance of 9.4″/24cm from the sensor plane. The max magnification of the 8-16mm is .1x, and the 10-24 is .16x. OIS/IBIS vs. Fuji 16/1.4 has 81.3 degrees FoV for JPEG files and 81.9 degrees for RAW files. The difference between JPEG and RAW is a minor 0.6-degree in-camera correction. Judging by corrected JPEG (81.3 degrees) Fuji 16/1.4 is 1.7 degrees wider than 17mm (79.7 degrees) and 1.8 degrees narrower than 16mm (83.1 degrees). So 16/1.4 is actually around 16.5/1.4. 35mm f1.4 and 23/35/50mm f2. I do not use stock hoods of Fujifilm lenses because of extra bulk and design I don't like. I have found alternative hoods for all other lenses I have but two: 14mm f2.8. 16-55mm f2.8.
